I am frequently looking for additional help when it comes to guides, spotters, and packers. Things come up for my regular folks, as well as year to year, they will draw tags themselves and not be able to help guide with me. If you are interested in any of the following positions, please feel free to reach out to me @ 541-620-1318 or by email @ Birch.creek.guide@gmail.com.
Guides – responsibilities for guides range from not just actually guiding hunters in on their potential trophy, but also include helping set up/break down camps, helping out around camp (cutting firewood, cooking, dishes, keeping a clean campsite) when hunts include food and lodging, skinning, packing, glassing, ect. Guides are the ones who will spend the most 1×1 time with clients, so need to be personable as well as have a vehicle capable of shuttling clients to and from the day to day hunting spots. Guides need to be at least 18 years of age and be in relatively good shape, and capable of hiking miles and miles, day after day, over rough conditions. They also need their own gear as far as optics, personal supplies, and packs go. I do supply food and lodging for guides. You are not required to have your own guides license, but do need to have a valid first aid/cpr card, a valid drivers license, as well as a clean record. Guide rates as of 2024 range from $250-$300 per day plus tips, depending on experience.
Spotters/Packers – This position is perfect for individuals (young or old) who are more or less wanting to get their feet wet in the guiding world. There isn’t the pressure on the spotter/packer position as there is on the guide position, as they are not the ones fully responsible for the client. Responsibilities for spotters/packers are similar to guides when it comes to helping out around camp. Other responsibilities include glassing, keeping in communication with guides as guides with clients pursue their potential animal, shuttling vehicles, and assisting guides with animal recovery (deboning/packing meat). Spotters/Packers do not have as much 1×1 time with clients, so vehicles only need to be capable of shuttling the spotter/packer. Spotters/Packers need to also be at least 18 years of age, have a valid first aid/cpr card, a valid drivers license, be in similar good shape as my requirements for guides, and need to have their own optics, packs, and personal gear. I supply food and lodging for spotters/packers as well. Pay for Spotters/Packers ranges from $150-$200 per day, depending on experience.
For guides, spotters, packers, all tips you receive are your own. I do not gather up tips and split them up at the end of the hunts. Depending on the season, I also usually pay a 5 day minimum. If you tag your hunter out on day one, you still get paid for five days. The only exceptions to this is on cow hunts or if you have to leave on your own account.
